The Joy of Filing on Your Computer

There have been some powerful books about the art of cleaning up and what it does for you.

Here is my take on it for the modern age.

We all have computers, phone, laptops, etc. But how many times do you think about the system you use to store all this data?

It’s an insanely boring topic I know, so Iwill keep it short.

Right now, take any device you have and think about how you have organised and named your apps, documents, folders.

Now thing about how you really use this device, what you use most. Write it down in descending order of usage.

Now move things about and package things together in a way you really use it. Make sub-folders within folders. Delete unwanted files, temp files, move lower priority items to an external hard disk.

Next, invent a file naming system.
Like “01 — Project Name_Nature _Version”

To a designer this may convert to “01 — Alderan Brochure_Templates_V1”

Over the next week, feel how that little smile on the inside comes up when you find something easier.
